Message from Bob Snyder
Welcome to Bob Snyder's Nature Photography website. Please look over my galleries and enjoy. I would appreciate hearing from you, so please feel free to leave your comments!
My photographic interests are in bird photography and macro photography: including flowers and insects, and dabbling in conversion of color to B&W. I have just purchased the new Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark II camera will use it as my main camera from now forward. My lenses include the Olympus 12-40 mm PRO lens, and the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO lens, used mostly with the 1.4x teleconverter for bird photography. I also photograph with a Nikon D7000 digital SLR camera, but have been moving away from that format and the heavy equipment.
My Nikon lens inventory includes ; the AF Nikor 300mm f4 (ED), Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 ED AF-D, and Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX D AF lens and a AF Nikkor 105mm f2.8 marco. I sometimes use a Kenko 12mm extension tube to bring subjects closer. I also use the non-Ai Nikkor lenses on my OMD-EM5: Nikkor-Q Nippon Kogaku 35mm f2.0, Micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5, Nikkor-P 105mm f2.5, and recently, I added an AI Nikkor-Q Auto, 200mm f4 len for messing around. The older Nikon lenses have a soft quality to the colors that I like.
Most of my work has been done locally, in central Pennsylvania, though from 2006 - 2017 I did have the chances to travel five times to the Republic of South Africa and twice to Mozambique for my real job as a lab manager in Plant Nutrition; with the bonus of being able to get in some nature photography! My job now takes me several times a year to Arizona and the field lab and research plots we have in the high desert.
Birding field guides I use include: "The Sibley Guide to Birds", (© 2000), by David Sibley (including the separate guides to Eastern and Western North America);
"Birds of Eastern and Central North America" (fifth edition, © 2002) by Roger Tory Peterson;
"Warblers", by Jon Dun and KImball Garrett (©1997, Peterson Field Guides);
Hawks of North America (2nd edition; © 2001, Peterson Field Guides) by William S. Clark and Brian K. Wheeler.
Reference books I use are:
"Birds of Central Pennsylvania" (© 2010) by Nick Bolgiano and Greg Grove; Stone Mountain Publishing, State College, PA.
"The Birds of Pennsylvania"(© 2000) by Gerald M. McWilliams, and Daniel W. Brauning;
"Birds of Pennsylvania" (©1979) by Merrill Wood;
Advanced Birding, by Kenn Kaufman (©1990, Peterson Field Guides);
I look for the beauty in all things and try learn what I can about, and from nature. If I can bring to someone's attention, that beauty and even a smidgen of knowledge for even the common place things in nature, I will consider my efforts a success.
Enjoy the photos and then go out and make some of your own!!!
