Message from Jim Markowich
We may well be living at a very unusual time in the history of humanity. The inventions of the internal combustion engine and airplanes, while having perhaps serious side effects on the health of the planet, have enabled many people of average means to wander the surface of that planet. I find it compelling to take advantage of that opportunity. It may be that this ability exists for a relatively short window of time. Fossil fuels may become prohibitively expensive. Sea level rises may drown coastal cities. The social fabric of civilization might fray and decompose. In the meantime, the world is a fascinating place.
