Hi Cici,

I'm sorry I haven't responded to your request. It's been a while since I checked it. Anyway, if it's not too late, you do have my permission to use the photos and/or videos. Thanks.

Beautiful pictures!! Now I can put a name to the endless birds we see at our feeders.
I was trying to find a bird my friend said she say yesterday in Prince Frederick Maryland. She said the bird was black, bright yellow beak and had white on his chest. He was the size of a crow. Do you know what bird that may have been?

Charlie, Thank you for sharing your hobby! It is helping with my enjoyment in retirement. Cheers from Columbia, Maryland.

Great photography site -- I recently spotted a Pileated Woodpecker in NY, and greatly enjoyed your pictures of same. I was puzzled at the bird's fascination of the car -- maybe he found the reflections to be threatening.

I feed about 30 or more hummingbirds but this week I have seen a few other birds feeding out of my hummingbird feeders. I identified the birds as a house finch. Is it common for them to feed on the hummingbird food?
Thanks

Such beautiful photos. You put so much work into identifying them all and posting them. What a great resource. I often have a hard time identifying birds and your work is so helpful. And artful. Much gratitude.

Enjoy your web-site -I now have five birds feeders hanging outside my sliding door and have seen so many birds that I haven't seen before, your web-site has helped my a lot. Have you published a book covering Birds In Maryland, It would be nice to show visiting friends the many birds we have locally.

I have been viewing your galleries and feel you are on track with your efforts to capture the beauty of wildlife . Though I primary shoot landscapes, I'm very excited about a new adventure of wildlife photography. Your images inspire me. I also reside in Balto cnty and hope to cross paths while shooting @ Blackwater or some other wildlife habitat. Enjoy your work!

Thank you so much for this gallery. I use it all the time to identify birds that are new to me, such as the red bellied woodpecker I watched this morning.

Hello Charlie,

Your photos are wonderful! Can you suggest an appropriate camera for bird photography for a beginner? We are on the Eastern Shore in MD on the Miles River.

Went online to find what the beautiful bird was that I saw sitting in my crape myrtle tree. I stood there for several minutes and "conversed" with him. He had a black head, white belly, and brown sides. Totally black bill, and I thought red eyss, though I couldn't get close enough. Went to my bird watching book, but still couldn't find him. So I googled "spring birds of the Chesapeake black head white belly and brown" and came to your site. There was the Eastern Towhee! It was him. Thanks so much! (I live near North Beach)

I took some great shots of a pilated woodpecker in Bogalusa, La. in January. I was carrying my new camera..less than 200 but had 12 zoom & 12 pix. The bird is feeding on a large decayed but living pecan tree. I have several photos from approx. 30 yards.I only see this bird maybe once a year if I'm lucky and sometimes the whole year without a sighting. I know what to do now. Carry the camera at all times because there are no reservations or appointments of time that you could be assured of the bird being there. It seems the bird like to eat decayed trees and random type feeding like deer. If it was pigeons, I'd just throw some corn out and wait, so this one makes me feel like it is the best picture I have ever taken. Any ideas on enlarging the photo for framing beyond 9x11

Your photos are wonderful. I am an artist and gardner. My paintings are of flowers. I often search online for photos to paint as it is difficult to always have live examples. I have many varieties of lilies in my yard. It is the end of the season and most have gone. Thank you so very much for creating this site.

What great images! Thanks for sharing them AND for your willingness to provide us information on birding around the DC area. My husband and I met you on the road in the Petuxent NWR a week ago. You certainly have an eye for composition in your images. We so miss having bird feeders in our yard and viewing your images brought back great memories. Maybe we'll see you at Blackwater! Oh, could you again give us the information on how to get to the great eagle viewing area?

I'm a long time daylily hybridizer and semi-professional photographer. I've taken hundreds of daylily pictures and know a good daylily picture when I see it. Your daylily pictures are very good! It would be interesting to know what photo editing program you use.
Charlie Lentz17-May-2010 02:22
I have not sold any of my daylilies, or my photographs. When I retired I made a promise to myself to not turn any of my hobbies into a part-time business. Selling daylilies thru the mail requires adherence to various regulations. I prefer not getting involved with legal issues. Maybe someday, my children might want to make a few extra bucks. But for now, I'm sorry.

Can we order daylilies from you....

Wonder photos. We just moved back to Maryland after being in FL for 20 years. We reside in Carroll County and just got a bird feeder. I keep running to your site to look up the birds I see before I forget all their characteristics. Still looking for an oriole. I did see a couple of red winged blackbirds, and among them a blackbird looking identical but the wing was closer to pinkish white. Could it be the female?
Carol 21-Feb-2010 16:58
Mr. Lentz,
I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your beautiful photographs of birds in Maryland. I am also retired and started taking pictures as a hobby. My husband has put up several bird feeders in our backyard and I have been taking pictures of all the birds. I found you site by trying to check info on bird sanctuaries in Maryland and have been enjoying your pictures. You are an inspiration! I also use a Nikon D300 and appreciate the notes on the lens and settings. I am having difficulty in learning to use this complicated camera but it is also fun and I hope it will help to keep my brain working. I am going out to photograph birds on this beautiful Sunday. Once again, thank you so much for sharing your photographs.

Ms. Hollidge,

An e-mail has been sent to you .....

Dear Mr. Lentz,

I am a third grade teacher at a private school in Anne Arundel County. Our spring biology unit is on birds of Maryland and your site has been a great help to me. I wondered if I might have permission to use some of your photos to help me create a workbook for my students. I would not be for sale, just for use in the third grade classrooms of a little private school.

Thank you for considering this request,

Denise Hollidge

thank you for taking the time to post such wonderful and informational pictures of the birds, I live in Maryland. I am enjoying my bird feeder in my yard. I saw a bird that looked like a crow, but it was purple, but my son said, Mom its just a crow! So, I had to look it up.
Thanks Again I greatly enjoyed viewing this

Thanks, Bill. It was an 'honor' meeting you. Hopefully our paths will cross again. Best wishes as you begin your retirement years. It is well deserved. Also, it looks like you're off to a good start on your new website at naturephotoart.com. Hopefully, the next time we meet, the eagles will be soaring more frequently.
